The government of Kenya enforced the compulsory insurance for marine cargo with effect from 14/02/2025.

• Importers will not be in a position clear cargo unless cargo is locally insured.
• Providing a marine certificate will not be sufficient. The process is digital i.e. cargo must reflect as insured under the IRA and ICMS portal.
• Insurer must be capable of issuing marine certificates digitally.
• Even where open cover terms have agreed, a certificate will be issued for each consignment.
